Liposuction
Ideal Candidate | Application Points
With liposuction we achieve a reduction in the number of fat cells in an area. This improves its shape, but the weight loss in relation to the total body weight is negligible. Therefore liposuction is not a slimming method, but a technique that improves the appearance of specific areas in people with normal or near-normal body weight, who nevertheless “complain” about localised fat accumulation in these areas. The results are most often impressive and long-lasting, if specific postoperative instructions are followed.
Deposits | Fat Deposits
The number of fat cells in the human body is constant from adulthood and throughout life. This number depends on genetic factors and on the creation of fat cells until the completion of human development.
Thus, the more fat cells a person has “built” in childhood and adolescence, the more fat cells he or she will have in adulthood. Subsequently, depending on his diet, they “inflate” and “deflate”, but remain constant in number. For this reason, obesity of the “hyperplastic type”, that is, obesity that develops until adolescence, is more “resistant” to dieting in adulthood and easily relapses.
Process | Recovery
The procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia and lasts 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the case. The incisions through which the liposuction cannula is inserted are up to 1 cm. and are done where possible in places that are easily covered (natural skin folds).
After surgery, the patient wears a special elastic corset and remains in the hospital for a few hours or 1 day, in cases where a large amount of fat has been removed, in order to administer intravenously the fluids lost during the operation. Postoperative pain is minimal and usually resolves with standard painkillers.

Postoperatively the patient presents with severe bruising and swelling. The bruises gradually subside from the 7th-10th day and in a month they have disappeared. However, the swelling (edema) subsides more slowly until the lymphatic and venous drainage of the area is restored and it takes up to 3 months for it to fully subside. The patient can return to work after 2-3 days, take a bath after 3 days and start exercising after 10-15 days. The stitches are removed on the 7th postoperative day. The corset is applied for one month.
Swelling, sagging and cellulite are improved with special massage and exercise programs that should be applied from the 20th day and last 1-2 months depending on the case.
