- Hydration strategies
Skin hydration is essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier, which can protect against harmful bacteria, allergens and environmental toxins. Dehydrated skin often appears dull, flaky, less elastic and may develop fine lines.
Day Routine
Cleansing: start the day with a gentle, moisturising cleanser that does not strip the skin’s natural oils. The use of harsh cleansers can seriously dehydrate the skin.
Toning: toning helps to balance the skin’s pH levels, providing hydration and removing any residue that is approved. Moisturizing toning serums with glycerin or hyaluronic acid are ideal.
Serum: Apply a moisturizing serum with hyaluronic acid or vitamin B5. These ingredients are excellent at retaining moisture and in the deeper penetration panel of hydration.
Moisturizing cream: Choose a light, daily moisturizer, ideally with SPF protection. This seals in the effects of moisturizers, while adding an extra layer of resistance to sun damage.
SPF: Even if a moisturizer includes SPF, it is necessary to add another layer of SPF protection. Sun damage can cause severe skin dryness and accelerate the signs of aging.
Night Routine
Double cleanse: start with an oil cleanser to remove makeup, sunscreen and dirt. Follow with the same gentle cleanser from the morning.
Toning: use the same toner from the morning routine.
Targeted treatments: During the night is the best time to use targeted treatments, such as retinols or chemical exfoliants. These treatments can often be dehydrating, so always follow up with a strong hydration step.
Night Serum: Switch to a more intense night serum if needed. Serums with ingredients such as ceramides, amino acids or peptides help restore sweat loss and repair the skin while you sleep.
Night cream: Complete the routine with a restorative night cream that is dense with moisturizing ingredients and occlusives (a substance that forms a water barrier on the skin) to lock in overall hydration from the routine and prevent moisture loss during the night.
Sleep mask: For extremely dehydrated skin, using a moisturizing sleep mask once or twice a week on the last step can make a significant difference.”
